My tank is currently filled with gravel, from what i have read sand would be a better option. I would like to change to sand now. I do not have any fish yet i am still cycling what is the best ay to do it? Do i have to buy specific sand?

Thanks

i went to local Focus store and got play sand its allready been cleaned sivvd and that and just put it in and my fish bin ok been neally 4month now and perfect the fish love it  hope it helped also only £4

If you have no fish in there it's easy. Just take your gravel out with a seive/colander/dustpan/ice cream carton/whatever and put the sand in. Any kind of play sand for kids will do, but it will probably still need washing; mine certainly did (mine came from Argos though; maybe the Focus stuff is cleaner!)

Ditto, super easy with no fish. Just scoop the old stuff out, wash the crap out of the sand (I don't care what anyone says, it is going to be dirty, and fill it up!

Specific way to wash the sand? Thanks for the replies!

Put some sand (a small amount, no more than 1/3 of the bucket full) in a bucket and put it either under the tap or put your hose in. Fill bucket with water, stir, pour water out, repeat until clean. It's a dull, slow, cold job, but on the plus side, you only have to do it once.

Best tips I have found; use a bit of hot water if you can and find an old wooden spoon you can use for stirring :good:

I did this during my cycle Menacer, see the link in my signature.
