I've had good success with some of the more delicate stems with 1-3mm gravel. It is like a coarse sand really. Sand vs. gravel, doesn't make much of a difference to me anymore. I now tend to pick the substrate to suit the fish I'm keeping.

well i wont be keeping any fish that require a certain type of substrate so il guess il use small gravel .
