I am moving house this week and am moving my Tanganikans to a larger tank. I am currently using sand and I HATE it ! Can I get away with a fine gravel ?

Also, could I move one of my Bristlenose Plecos in there safely ? I have Frontosa, Calvus, and breeding Regani's.

Thank you !

Nevermind, why? You decided for yourself, changed plans, or saying it cause you didn't have a reply in an instant?

Fine gravel would be ok and is used quite often. The downside is you might not find them digging as much and showing their natural behavior.. but if it is fine, you could be ok. Go for a smoother gravel though as if they can sift through it and fit it in their mouths, they will.. and sharp stuff can cause gill damage and what have you.

Bristlenose, although a lot of people have them in with rift cichlids, you run the risk of them A, not getting on in the harder water and B, getting a pasting from the others.

Thank you. I am downsizing from 5 tanks to 3 as I'm moving house, and needed somewhere for the Bristlenose, but will be re-homing him.

I am using pool filter sand and have always had a TERRIBLE time with algae. No problem with other tanks, so I think it may be the sand giving off silicates. Just guessing.

I would like to use the sand made for Cichlids, but it is so expensive to fill a 75 gallon tank. I will need to either pay the $$$ or find a fine gravel.

Basically I answered my own questions
