Well.. more aptly, pet store clerks. I have had plenty of fish throughout my years (never large ones), so having a couple now was not a concern of mine. My grandsons decided they wanted to have a shark. I said no, and explained to them that they grow too big. The pet store clerk explained to us that these guys are not sharks, just look like them a bit and won't get much bigger. They are currently roughly 2 1/2 inches.
So we get the tank up and running, get the water regulated, etc., and finally go get two of these Bala sharks. Again, no further info from store clerks on size, etc. I start doing research on them to see if we can tell if they are male or female to assist us with naming and BAM! I discover that I may just have to sell an organ and kick one of my daughters out of their bedrooms so I can house these little buggers. lol A bit dramatic perhaps, but you get my point.
After resisting the urge to go and hang the clerks up by their toes (a manager will be graced with my words), we are buckling down and doing tons of research on them, looking for a larger home (aquarium)for them, etc. Hopefully, soon they will be able to move out of Motel 6 and into their Mansion. I could have brought them back to the store, but they really are interesting little guys and I've always wanted a large tank someday, so why not now?
Their appetite seems to be alright, however, they want nothing to do with the wafer style food the clerk sold us for them. We purchased elsewhere some flakes and pellets for them and they love those. I will be picking up some daphnea, brine shrimp and tubifex worms tonight as well. I was amazed to learn of them eating some vegetables. We will try this also.
Bottom line is.. we will give this a go. I am glad to have found this site and look forward to learning more about our new houseguests. We have some plastic plants in the tank but want to replace them with real plants. Any suggestions as to what these little guys enjoy most to nibble on? Also any other helpful advice would be greatly appreciated!
