I'm setting up a new tank just for my excess guppies :fish: , and hopefully be separating the sexes, so there will be no more babies....that's the idea anyway. I'm also going to move my 3 cories in, as the loaches have started chasing them around in the big tank.
I'd like to introduce a bit of variety though, instead of just having guppies and cories, and I'd like to have a few gouramis. Would theybe happy enough with the guppies? And what size group do they like to be kept in? We have 3 in the tank at work, they just all ignore each other!
Also, what size do they grow to? As this tank is only 75cm long, I can't have anyone too big in there!!

some gourami's are more aggressive than others, there do seem to be personality traits with the different sorts however it's by no means uncommon for one of the peaceful species to be a nasty git or vica versa.

we've had opalines before and they only ever showed aggression to each other and even then not much, just the occasional chase around the tank.

Yeah, avoid giant gourami and kissing gourami  , they'd get too big. Dwarf and honey gourami should get to about 2" and most other species get to 6". Whatever species you get make sure you google the size.
Most people reccomend at least 2 females to every male, although bear in mind if there is any breeding you would have to seperate in case of aggression. Make sure theres lots of hiding places as some like to establish their own territories
I've got two honey-peach gourami (or so the LFS tells me) but whatever they are, they're stunningly friendly fish, although almost 3 inches already. Wild dwarves are my personal favourite although they seem shy when compared to my farmed(?) gourami, just because their behaviour seems more naturalistic and therefore interesting.
What gallonage is your tank? (U.S)
No idea on compatibility, perhaps post this topic in the anabantoid (or something) and gourami forum?

Sorry, that was stupid of me...
You may want to research dwarf gourami disease/iridovirus(?) this is apparently very common in dwarf gourami at the moment and may influence your decision.
Theres been alot said on it in the anabantoid, gourami forum recently.
Anyway good luck with your choice :good:

I've got two opaline gouramis and they are lovely fish. Except for the fact that one of them is a tyrant and keeps chasing the other one until it hides away. :(

Also found one of my other fish (danio) without a tail and think that this lil' bugger could be the culprit - so maybe they're not the best thing to include with guppies ?? not sure about that, but something to think about anyway
