are gold gouramis normally aggressive to new tankmates.
i introduced two kissing gouramis today to my 24o litre tank and the gold gourami is making their life miserable with chasing. is it likely to give up?

gold gouramis are usually albino blue gouramis, which are pretty agressive. It depends on each fish though as mine is pretty docile towards the other gourami and all the other fish.

my guarami always chases the new fish around its almost like there invading there territory but give it a day or so and they should be fine

My opaline gourami was so aggressive towards his tank mate which was another opaline gourmai and the bigger one chased him around for 2 days and nipped his fins so I put the smaller one in my 10 gallon and he died. Then the bully died from ich and the shimmies a few days ago. :(

Almost all gouramis are aggressive, especially towards other gouramis. Gouramis are related to Bettas so that gives a clue about how well behaved they are around each other. From personal experience I can tell you that the species that the gold gourami is a member of is particularly aggressive. I had to take mine away from the community tank and moved it in with my cichlid community.

The Gold Gourami is the same species as the Blue Gourami, the Three Spot Gourami and the Opaline Gourami (or at least the fish that is commonly called opaline). Different colors do not mean different species or behaviors.

I love kissing gouramis!Honey gouramis look so cute.....They really are nasty buggers are they not?I have never really tried to keep these fish...My mother on the other hand has tried and failed multiple times...of course she is a novice and did not even let the tank cycle through..

Is that a 24 litre or a 240 litre? 24 is only 6 gallons which is much too small for either of the two species. 240 is 60 gallons and should be fine provided the kissers grow quickly so that they are at least equal in size to your gold. If it's a female, it'll eventualy calm down over the next few weeks provided your kissers can hold their own. If male, you could have some serious trouble if the kissers aren't at least the same size as him. BTW, the kissers will eventualy grow to about 8" and should then turn the tables and become the dominant ones.

It's a 240 litre tank. The gold gourami is male and both the kissers are already a good size and quite a bit bigger than the gold. Yhings have calmed down a lot today and both the kissers have stopped hiding and standing up to the gold a bit more :)
The only other things in the tank at the moment are an opaline gourami, a small plec and 2 swords. A severum is next to be added and then maybe an angel or two. The two swords are going to be moved back into my 180 litre tank.
