I have a Juwel Rio 240 which curently only has 2 full grown angelfish in it, but which will be slowly stocked over the coming weeks. My plans are: 6 zebra loaches, 2 hoplo catfish and some buenos aries tetras.

I was originally planning on getting about 15 tetras and just having them with the angels as the mid/top fish, but I have decided I want another mid/top fish in there too, and in the lfs the other day they had a tank with golden gouramis in it and I think they are just gorgeous! Have done some research on size/temperament etc, and it seems they can be quite aggressive sometimes...

Would it be a bad idea to put a single male in my tank with the other fish I have/have planned? I'm thinking a single male or a single female might be better than a pair because it would rule out any aggression between the pair, but would there be an issue with aggression towards the angels?

Any help would be greatly appreciated - I really do think they are beautiful, but if it won't work then I'll try to find something else instead...

I think it would be perfect!
It is OK to have two or more gouramis together, mine get along really well but they're pearl gouramis, never had gold ones.
Angels and Gouramis go really well together.
Difinetly not crowded.
Good Luck! ;)

There should be no problems as I've kept them together.
Although it is purely based on the temperment ouf your angels? Gouramis are generally not aggressive to other species only their own, if any bullying happens it will be the angels bullying the gouramis. Keep a close eye on them as I've heard it has happened. But I myself have not experienced this issue.

If you do get this issue I would suggest making sure that all the fish are well fed.

The word the guy at the lfs used to describe blue/golden gouramis was "stroppy" he did suggest that maybe pearls might be better, as they are less likely to have any aggression...

I don't know whether the angels would be happy with it or not. I guess I could always buy a pair on the proviso that I can take them back if it turns out my angels aren't happy with the arrangement!

i have a pair of angels in with a pair of blue, gold, pearl, 3 dwarfs and 4 honeys and they are fine together

the male blue gourami is very moody! if you were to just have one get a female, although he has never bothered my angels just the other gouramis

my new pair of golds haven't bothered a thing and they are 2.5" ish

it all depends on the personality of the fish though!

NOOOOO!!! sorrry, just that my gold gourami killed: 3 silverhatchetfish, and his partner and then went on to make every fish in my tank hide! Mabye it was just mine... Oh, he was abot 2 inches long.
