Well, my water was all right to add fish, so I made the plunge and picked up two gouramis, a female banded giant dwarf, and a male pearl leeri. I plan to add a few more female dwarfs and a male, and a bunch of female pearls. Both fish are settling in nicely, and are already trying to spawn! I haven't had a chance to keep gouramis in years, so this should be fun. Wish me luck!

female banded giant dwarf

Do you mean a dwarf gourami (colisa lalia) or a 'giant' gourami (colisa fasciata and also often called the 'banded gourami')?

Good luck either way.

I'd also hope you have a big enough tank for all those gouramies.

Good choice with the pearl gourami (trichogaster leeri). I love those fish.

colisa fasciata - banded gourami. They are housed in a 75 gallon, so they should have enough space for two species of gourami.

Enough for more than that.....I have 3 "speicies" in a 10G. (I am upgrading them to a 29G soon)

I agree that that should be more than enough for what you have planned. If you ever post pics, I'd love to see them :D

However, it isn't a matter of how many species are in the tank but how many individual gouramies, of what species, sex and in what sort of ratio with which tankmates and in what sort of set-up. For example, a three honeys would be fine in a 10 gallon but if you do the same with three-spots you get a massacre.

Sylvia, I plan to take photos after I add a few more fish and the tank goes through it's cycle. If you want to email me at mbhw at optonline dot net I can send you a snap of the tank when I first filled it with water, sand, & two amazon swords.
