Hi All,

My 3 Gold Gouramis are really freaking out. Not all the time, just maybe once a day, one will just go mad - fly off in one direction with no concern what is in it's way: fish, rocks, glass!!
This will cause the other Gourami's to freak out as well, and after about 5 seconds, if that, they'll be hinding looking sorry for themselves, almost looking lifeless?!

It's not the same as when a fish is chased. When chased they seem to know where they're going, when to turn, how to avoid capture. This is completely different. Thet'll fly of in a random direction, basically till they hit something and cant go any further, then change direction, fly off again untill there restled in either the grass or a bush near the front.

2 minutes later all is ok, but they are not they usual selves, they are now generally really nervous.

This started happening about 2/3 days ago.

RECENT TANK HISTORY:

Ok.
-9/10 weeks ago got 4 dwarf gouramis - all was ok for 4 weeks.
-4 weeks ago, 1 Gourami grew far bigger than the rest, and bullied the hell out of them. Hearding them like sheep to one end of the tank, waiting 1/2 an hour, then hearding them somewhere else. Then he started to pick on 1 at a time and this mucked the whole tank up. So he went off to a friends tank to live out his life, where I hear he is now happy, and relaxed.. I also got a very small Green severum.
-To Present, all has been ok. The Severum settled in really well, keeping himself to himself and really making me laugh. The Gouramis were much happier now that 'Death' the bully was gone, and the Tetras looked better too.

Then all this happened. Nothing else has changed, water is fine etc. So this really is very confussing, and getting increasingly worrying.

Just checked the tank, and although the last 'freak out' was over 1/2 hour ago, the Gouramis are pretty much sitting around doing nothing. 2 in the long grass hiding, and one under a rock - hiding.

:( Any ideas??!! -_-

Dwarf gouramis are easy to sex arent they? Females are silver and the males hog all the colour.

How big is the tank? Are you or anyone walking past or lights in the room going on. There may be a trigger in the room that scares them.

I think they're dwarf. Was told they were dwarf or miniture gourami. They're yellow in colour, and have what resemble a peacocks pattern on there tails and fins.

People walk past, but always have done, it's only in the last few days that this has all started.

get us a pic mate

Here you go:

They're all the same.

Look at your post black angle, these are the same too, and sounds like I might have 3 females. Doubt it explains the freakyness though.

I have 2 Male dwarfs (i think) and one of they rests at the bottom of the tank inbetween this tower model and the glass, and then they go psycho and try to kill my other fish, so i'm glad i'm puttin them in a seperate tank now (mine are the blue and orange coloured ones). And their fins are a mess because they keep going for each other.

hardest dwarfs to tel apart ate blue gourmies as the femail looks alot like the blue excpet ther a little smaller and dont have red on them but they can look similar  i thought i had 2 males first but i dont luckily

[I've read up but still doesn't solve the problem. Although I now know they're female, will have to be rehomed in a year or two, and like to be the boss..

hang on, could the Severum be causing the problem??- even though he is still far smaller then the Gourami?

i doubt its that what size tank you ahve them in and how big are they atm as they will outgrow ur tank if all 3 get to full size

also if its in ur 12gal tank ur green sevrum will also out grow ur tank and will not get along with ur gourmies but i doubt thats what makes them crazy did u recently do a larger water change the usual? or take a long time doing it?
