First off thanks for opening this up and looking at it..
Okay so i'm going to try my best to explain what's been going on because it's been a big PAIN.
First i got a 46 gallon tank about a month ago. I put in a dwarf gourami and a rainbowfish. levels of everythign seemedfine. I added a opaline gourami and a pictus catfish a week later. Still everything seemed fine. Then my dwarf got hole in the head, followed by ich, which i used general cure to treat. There's my problem. Once i used that my ammonia levels SOARED to way above 8 (testing with API test kit) my other levels seemed normal still. I know that medicine can kill off all the bacteria which i'm assuming i did. So i started up my 10 gallon tank to use as a medication tank. Well i let it run for a week and tried to getmy 46 gallon to drop levels and it didn't I did a 75% water change last saturday then a 50% change on thurs. Nitrite, Nitrate and PH all went to within limits that are okay for what i'm trying to get to right now. My ammonia still sits at 8. So i talked to my manager at the near by petstore. She suggested putting my 4 fish into my 10 galon tank and running my 46 by itself for a week. Do another water change this upcoming sunday (50%) and see howti goes. I realize 10 gallons is small for 4 fish but i'm running out of options. Is there anything else i can do to lower levels? Should i just start completely over?
Also my two gourami's fight each other constantly. I know they are territorial but i was told dwarf's and opaline's would be fine. Now they are looking like they are starting to lose parts of their fins and my dwarf even looks like it has holes in it's sides by it's fins, so i'm afraid they're getting very very aggressive towards each other. Should i take one back and leave one? It started off with my dwarf going after my opaline and now my opaline constantly chases the dwarf. the holes on my dwarf look like it's scales are coming off which is why i think i'ts because of them fighting. I"m starting to see white in the hole. I already treated him for HITH so i dont think it' sthat again. or could it be? Any help is very greatly appreciated. Thanks
