Does anyone have a betta and a gourami in the same tank? I really want to get a betta but I love my gourami and if they don't do well together I am not getting one. I have read conflicting things on this.

It all depends on what temperament your betta and gouramis have. It also depends on the species of gourami. I'd think a pearl would be best as they're large and peaceful.

I would say no....  I've in the past had to medicate a Gourami and a Betta and used the same tank (it was divided by a perspex screen I siliconed in place), and the Betta hardly ever lowered it's fins, and was constantly showing aggressive tendencies to it's hospitalised neighbour, great display though and I think it helped with the repair to its fungal fin infection.

I have a betta with a kissing and a pearl Gourami. I would say its ok as long you keep an eye on them just to be safe and perpare for the worst if they don't get along. I hope this helps a bit

Really does depend on the fishes temperament. In this house we have 2 siamese fighters (not in the same tank), one is very sociable living happily with ember tetras, neon tetras, pearl danios and a bristle nosed plec (admittedly he did eat one very small ember when I first introduced them but I think this one was not doing well so feel nature maybe did its thing) BUT the other fighter will not accept any other fish apart from a bristle nosed plec, these fighters are completely different so it is very hard to advise you.
