Hi Everyone!

I have one gold gourami and one blue gourami. They were both in my 30 gallon tank but I moved them to my 10 gallon with 6 kuhli loaches because the convict I had in the 30 was bullying everyone. While in the 10 gallon, they both started hiding at the bottom of the tank. More so the gold one, but the blue one follows! They had nothing to be afraid of.

So now that the convicts gone, their back in the 30 and continue to hid at the bottom. Its been like 2 weeks. I just changed the substrate and took out all of the "caves" that were in there and the gold one just cowers behind the heater and the blue one follows. They act scared and I don't know how to reverse this behavior.

It's not the water, they were in there with three catfish, a rope fish and knife fish that are all doing well.

Are they afraid of getting caught and moved again? I don't know what happened.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Could be a stress factor also are they both male or one male one female

I think their possibly both male. If they are stressed, what could I do to make them more comfortable?

If you can post some pics and maybe I could help you with there gender

What you can do is separate them either that or if your tank is big you can add females and I'm talking about 2-3 for each and the specific gourami you have grows to be about 4-6 inches big... Seperating them is best or returning one and getting a female

I'll try to post one tomorrow. Thanks for your help by the way. Now that I'm looking, the gold one has a pointed dorsal fin and the blue has a more rounded one.. Also the gold one is almost 5 inches, I've had him for about 6 months to a year and the blue is like almost 3 inches, and I've had "her" for like 3 months now.

Sounds like a male & female combo, pics would help make us certain. What's your pH? What kind of current do you have in the tank? Gouramis in general don't like too much current.

Thanks for that, I didn't know they weren't fond of current. I have a spraybar in there right now.. I'll take it out today.

Ph is around 7.5.

The gold one is only skittish when I come around. I had a hard time taking a picture cause he kept swimming away! He didn't used to be like that.

they could be very stressed because you moved them.. if you put them in a bag of water and let it become the temp. of the other tank then let them in the water then it could just be the switching of the two tanks. i would say check all your levels of ph, ammonia etc
try to give them "treats" like blood worms if you feed them just flakes.. and just put hiding spots, but nothing they can get caught in and get stuck..
if they are eating then there isn't a huge worry. give it time i guess

Thanks guys, they have since been better. Really normal and friendly. I do give bloodworms once in a while. I'm still going to take one to a LFS and look into getting two females.

The top pic is a def. Opaline male. The bottom one is a Gold male or female, can't really be sure since the dorsal is down.

The dorsal is down but you can tell from tail how it's long normally the females everything is shorter

It does appear to be a male but you can't be certain if the fins aren't open. Even the anal fin is tucked...........
