I am planning on getting some gouramis for my tank (3 pearl and 1 dwarf). Any information on their general care, as I have never had any type of gourami before.

A book on general anabantoid care would be really good.

If you can, you should check it out at the library, provided it's there.

A google search might help, too.

And perhaps liveaquaria.com

I'm afraid gouramis and angels do not get along well, so you will have to make a choice between the two.

Pearl gouramis aren't difficult fish to keep, they tolerate wide water parameters. As for dwarf gouramis, i personally wouldn't keep it with the pearls as the pearls may bully it since the pearls are larger.

P.T.

Oh really? Nobody else said anything about that, and I have heard of gouramies and angels being kept together...

Gouramis can get temperamental. They tend to be shy in bright tanks without plants, but they bully some of the other fish around. I don't know though, I'm considering gouramis and angels in one tank. I don't think it would be too bad. Just takes some caution and making sure that the angels don't attack the other fish if they breed.

Yeah seriously. I have heard so many success stories of people doing stupid things like keeping male and female bettas together, bettas and gouramis together, etc. that I am tempted to take the risk.

Scrap the dwarf gouramis, and get some honey gouramis. mine were great with pearls, until they got nematodes from my rams  Dwarf neaons are riddled with disese as well, honeys don't have that problem. Mine only got sick because my rams did -_-

Alright I'll scrap the dwarf gourami. I'll just get the pearls instead. I'm still keeping them with angels though  . Pearls as far as I know are very peaceful.

i keep dwarf gouramies with angels and haven't had a problem. Once in awhile the gourami will try to feel one of the angls with his tenticles (what are those things called?) but other wise they ignore eachother. I don't know about pearl gourami's but my dwarfs freak on each other.

Are your dwarfs healthy gaya? How long have they lived? Apparently they tend to be diseased and don't live very long.

If you have room you might want to try banded/giant gourami also. They are very timid and I doubt they would bother your angel or your pearls. They would be another good alternative to dwarf gourami and their pattern is similar (blue and orange stripes). They only get about as big as pearls.

Edit: I spelled a word wrong :D
