hi folks, I'll make this quick.

I have a school of gouramis, 2-3 m-f ratio. I have noticed that the males' tails are fine, while all the females have torn fins.

1) should I remove the males to better the tank?
2) what medicine do you suggest to treat the torn fins?

Thanks,
Sol

Are the fins torn due to fin nipping, tank szie would be good, also water quality in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
And full fish stock of how many and which type.

Wilder - It's definitely fin nipping. I've had fin rot before and this isn't fin rot.

I'm running a 19US Gallon with 5 opaline gouramis and a couple of small corys. I'll be checking the water levels today as soon as I remember where I the test stuff is. :p

You will have to sort the problem out, maybe rehoming some that are doing the nipping, just good water quality, if really bad melafix.

thanks.

It's times like this I'm glad I have a quarantine tank.

If I remove the aggressive fish, and treat the injured ones, should I put the others back in over time? Or would that be a stupid move?

Sadly no, once they start fin nipping that it, i would rehome the nipper, sorry.
