I recently adopted two powder blue dwarf gouramis, I placed them in my community tank w/ my platties and they seem to be getting along. Just noticed today that one (I think the male, the one in my avatar is I think a female) is missing most of his rear fin, there is a stub and some fin, but not much. I didn't notice the other day if he was missing the fin, but I am a little concerned. He seems to be getting on okay... could he regrow the tail? or will he be okay. Could the other gourami have nipped the fin? Is my other female really a male and the two are not getting along?

He has also not left the top of the water surface since he got here, I figured that he was just adjusting to the new situation, but it has been 3 days... is that unusual? The other gourami swims all over the tank and hangs out mostly at the bottom of the tank, so not sure what is going on, like I said, never had a gourami before, so not used to their habits and behavior.

All suggestions are welcome... tank is a 10 gal (US) with the two dwarfs gouramis and 5 platties, plenty of hiding spaces and the H2O conditions are normal.

Thanks in advance

The Powder Blue in your avatar is a male. Chances are you have (2) males in too small of a tank for them to establish their own teritories. All Dwarf Gouramis should be in a minimum 20 gallon tank. They swim in all parts of the tank, top, middle & bottom. You should separate them as soon as possible & re-home one of them. The tail will regrow in time................

I have a single male Powder Blue temporarily housed in a 10 gallon fry tank but he's eventually moving on to bigger & better things.
