I went to turn my tank's light off for the evening and noticed my female Pearl Gourami appeared to be stuck in the fake tree stump in my tank - moving about inside it. I quickly picked the stump up to release her but found the movement wasn't her, but my male BN bumping her body about (attempting to eat her, I imagine).
She was fine earlier today; and there is no way for her to have died and floated into the fake stump, the gaps are too small. My theory is that she swam in and startled my full grown male Bristlenose who... I don't know ... accidentally/intentionally smashed her into the side of the stump? Is that possible? Water stats are fine, my male Gourami and all other fish are normal.
I got a photo of her after I netted her out - the redness is the injury that killed her I imagine - it looks like the skin is broken in the photo but it isn't at all - it's just a colour change.
