I have a tank of gourami. Yesterday I noticed one of them rocking back and forth while sitting in one spot at the bottom of the tank. The bottom and back end of the fish appeared to be a bit red. It is a white gourami. Compared to the other one in the tank, it almost looked pink.

Last night when I got home from work, I saw it dead at the bottom of the tank. Didn't get a chance to research what may be wrong or pick up any meds.

When I pulled it out, the bottom fins had red streaks through it. Looked like blood in the fins. the back end also had red blotches under the skin. (Didn't get a pic  )

Question is for gourami disease I should get parasite guard. The other gourami in the tank appear fine. Other than my gold gourami appears to be thin in the body behind the gills. Should I still treat the tank or is there something else that may be going on here?

Wish I could help you but I know nothing much about gouramis having never kept them.

Have you tested your water stats ie the usual ammonia, nitrites blah blah

Any signs of white stringy poo from the fish as this can sometimes indicate disease, parascites.

Any flashing or rubbing on rocks? What size is the tank?

All the information you can give will help.

Water stats are all normal no ammonia or nitrite. Nitrate is at 40 water is to be changed tomorrow.

Tank is 45 gallon with only 6 gourami.

No white stringy poo. Nothing out of the ordinary going on. Only the one fish got sick.

Don't want to treat the tank if I don't need to. Don't know what else to say. I am dumbfounded about this.

Sounds like septicemia to me.
