I purchased a Gourami today and I noticed that he began to ram against my java ferns. I read that some eat plants but why would it just attack the Java Fern. Can someone give me some tips on how I can control this habit and stop my Java Ferns from eventually being completely destroyed?

Either not being fed enough, or not being fed the right thing. Its unusual for them to eat plants, it should mean something is wrong

Some types of gourami do eat plants. My moonlight will always nibble at broken off stems. In my opinion, it's perfectly normal.

My Gourami tend to destroy plants in my tank tearing them to shreds.
When there are lots of bits floating at one end of the tank they start building bubble nests in them.
