Gourami Being Picked On

Hey everyone, I have a Gold Gourami being picked on by 2 sword tails, the gourami is MUCH bigger why would this be happening and is there anything I can do to help prevent this?

gouramis from my undestanding like alot of hiding spaces, they feel alot safer in the tank with lots of bushy plants etc have you got any?

Yes, there is all kinds of hiding places for all fish, the sword tails have seemed to leave my gourami alone, my nitrites were extremly high for a bit, I got that under controll now, but would the high nitrites associate with sword tails becomming aggressive? the nitrites are in check and this behavior has seemed to stop
