I've had a blue gourami (male) in my tank for about a year now, and he has always been very boisterous, always chasing about the tank like mad, eating everything and growing massive. In the last few weeks he's become increasingly listless and evidently petrified of me (I haven't done anything to him to cause this, as far as I know), and if I'm in the room he'll hide beneath some plants. If I go near him to give him something to eat he shoots out and away down the other end of the tank at the speed of light until I get my arm out, at which point he goes back to hiding among the plants. I've put it down to him being alone now that the other (dwarf opaline) gourami (female) that was in there died a few months back (was being bullied and just hid away and died in about 24 hours), so I've got a female blue (large) today and put her in in the hope it'll cheer him up a bit. To look at him, he looks perfectly fine. No signs of any disease that I can see, nothing on his skin anywhere.
He's been eating, but not that much, and I've tried feeding him peas. All other tank occupants are well with no disease in the tank (ever). Water parameters are Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 40, planted 75gal tank. Other occupants: red-tail blackshark, dwarf (male) gourami, 6 peppered corys (1 largeish, 5 small currently), red swordtail and black sailfin molly.
Anyone got any ideas? He did have a pretty forceful smack on the head the other day when he panicked and swam into the side glass, he went limp and stone-still for a few seconds with no gill flapping or anything, gave him a stroke and he woke up and swam off straight away.
I guess I'm just a bit worried about him. Got any thoughts, anyone?
