Gourami Acting Weird

hi i got a gold gourami and i bought her a female mate the ova day, to strt dey were really nice together but now the gold one chases my poor opaline, the gold seems to eat or sniff the opalins backside !? and they feel each ova alot, but when the opaline tries to pull away the gold gourami turns really nasty and looks as if its tryin to get chunks out of da opalines skin !! please help as my opaline is now stuk in a corner lookin sad :(
 
I'd hope that by now you've seperated them. If not, do so now - return one to your LFS.

Three-spot gouramies (these being color morphs of the same species - trichogaster trichopterus. Are often very aggressive. Males especialy so. Males have long and pointed dorsal fins (that's the top fin). If you have 2 males, they'll fight to the death eventualy. if you have a male and female, the male will stress the female out and she's likely to end up dead as well. If you have two females and a tank that's at least 30 gallons, add a couple more FEMALES. That'll spread the aggression out more and should solve the problem. Make shure the new additions are the same size as the established fish.
