Ok, well I think I got the correct ration down this time around. I also bought a breeding net.

Whats it mean when one of your female guppys have a black spot on their stomach?? or do they all have that? .. hmm

Alright ya'll.. its time to post your Guppy Breeding information! .. whatever you know, post it here!! Thanks!

The correct ratio is at least 2 females per male. So if you got that or over that, you are good. :) You just have to make sure your ratio for the whole tank is good too.

All females have the black spot, which is called a gravid spot. When they are pregnant, that spot darkens because the frys' eyes shart showing through. When it gets really dark, she's usually about to give birth. Just note, in some colors like yellow, the gravid spot will be reddish.

Not much to say about Guppy breeding. They basically do it all on their own. :p Or if you want to know about fry, I can tell you, I'm just not going to type out my whole rambling unless you want it.

hmm okay, thought so.

Well I have 2 males, so I have three females, is that enough??

i'm sure i'll be fine, and are they supposed to chase each other around the tank?? .. when am I supposed to put the female in the breeders net?

I actually think one of them is pregnant already because she swims around like shes pregnant, kinda wobbles, and keeps to the bottom of the breeding net (I just kinda thought she was pregnant, so I thought i'd be on the safe side, hehe) ... Sure Anna (mind if I call ya that?) .. go ahead and ramble!

I'd get at least one more female, because right now you are at: 2 females per male, and 1 female per male essentially. Since you said they are chasing each other around the tank, I'd definitely say you need more females. The reason for more females, is to take the stress off other females for a while. Males are very breeding-crazy. If the females get too stressed out by this, they are more prone to sickness and they could possibly abort their fry, have birthing troubles, or even die. :(

I personally wouldn't put the female in the breeder net. They tend to stress them out, once again making them more prone to sickness, aborted fry, birthing troubles, or death. Usually the best bet is to plant up the main tank, and let her give birth in there then catch the fry as you see them and raise them in the breeder net. What size tank are these guys in? But if you absolutely want to use a breeder net, don't let her stay in there for more then three days. After that you need to take her out, and let her swim in the main tank again. In a couple days, if you really want, you can put her back in the net, but moving her all about is going to stress her out a lot, hence why I suggest you plant/decorate up the main tank so the fry can hide.

Another option is a small fry tank. 10 gallons is really the minimum I'd say for that. Then you put the pregnant fish in there, and let her settle in. She'll be able to give birth in peace and that will be much better for her and the fry. :) If you want to do a fry tank, let me know, because I have another ramble about that. :p

Now, my fry feeding ramble.
When they are first born, Tetramin Fry Food or Hikari First Bites are best for them. Baby Brine Shrimp is good suppliment to this, or you can just feed BBS but it's best to vary. Once they grow up a bit, you can add in finely crushed flakes and Freeze-dried, Frozen, or Live foods, such as Bloodworms, Brine Shrimp, Tubifex Worms..etc. You just have to make sure it's small enough for them. However, don't feed them just the Freeze-dried/Frozen/Live...too many high-protein foods can cause bloating or constipation. As the fry continue to grow, you can keep feeding them the same thing, just slightly bigger pieces. And eventually they'll be eating as same as the adults! Though by then they'll probably be with the adults. You can also try small pieces of blanched veggies, like cucumber, zucchini, peas...etc.

Hope this helps some! And yeah, feel free to call me Anna. Everyone else does. :)

Anna-

Ok I just moved the female out of the net.

My tank is 10 gallons and is pretty much decorated. Its got plants and a sunken ship in there, so there's plenty of hiding space.

So tell me.. what does it mean when one of my females is less active then the other females?? .. I seem to think maybe she's pregnant. I'll try and get some pictures for you today. But yeah when she does swim she waddles, and she just seems bigger than the rest of the female.

Oh dear, this is going to be verrrry interesting being a breeder, hehe.

ok I finally got the pictures, hehe

So here are my females:

Snowy is the one I think is pregnant, she's all white.

Good to hear you moved her out. :) With your tank set-up, you should get some fry, especially if it's planted and decorated.

Snowy appears to either be deformed, or have a disease. :( I'm going to guess deformed, but she doesn't look totally healthy either. Her back is probably why she waddles, she can't swim straight. She's a pretty girlie though. You might not want to let her breed with the males though, because you could get deformed fry.

However, on a brighter note, Frenchie looks pregnant to me. :) And Dotty looks a little pregnant too.

I would keep an eye on Snowy, particularly the colour/shape of her poo. A bent spine like hers can be due to all sorts of things, birth defects, old age etc, but can also be caused by parasites- her belly is quite sunken too, which might be parasites. Look out for white stringy poo, or very thick segmented stuff. Hope she will turn out to be all right.

should I move snowy out of the tank then?? or should I keep her in there?? .. hmm I think if I keep her in there, she might get pregnant.. but hey.. a fish with a disability is fine by me, cuz I have one too :)

Yay for dotty and frenchie being preggers! .. oh lord, two females pregnant.. thats alot of fry, lol!

Thanks anna for your help. I will keep a close eye on dotty and frenchie and update you on their progress.

Yeah, I'd probably move her out. It's just best if she doesn't breed, because it's best if you don't get deformed fry. Also, fish with back troubles like that can have problems carrying fry. She may already be pregnant, but if you could move her out then she wouldn't have to deal with the males following her and everything. :)

Yep, you probably will get a lot of fry! Or you could get a couple small batches, it's hard to say right now.

Snowy's poo isn't white and stringy, its kinda reddish brownish.

Ok, I moved her out, watch tomorrow there will be eggs at the top of her tank

well i read in a book in my library ( friday in my english class is library day ) that guppis can have up to 190 a time ( the bggest batch ever ) , although lots of them die , and very nice fish there, guppies are so beautiful

You won't find any eggs because guppies are live-bearing fish, they give birth to live young, like us. Enless you were being sarcastic, LoL.

Oh, that's good. Then her deformity is probably due to something else.

I was being sarcastic :)

I've also noticed that she seems to open and close her mouth alot.. kinda like when human ederly people constantly lick their lips or something to the like. Snowy seems to have that sort of a thing, lol.

Oh, i've also figured out that guppys can live with out a filter, I always thought that my filter in the ten gallon brought air to them. Cuz if you remember, Anna, I still have two Tequila Sunrise Guppys?? I took them out and placed them in a vintage (a very clean one, I might add) glass sugar container. And snowy is in one of those tiny Betta stop sign looking shaped things, hehe.

Ooohhh Dhani (my betta) yawned!! .. ok sorry for the randomness, hehe.
