Got Some New Guppys!

so.. nothing has happened yet as far as babys.. er well fry.

I think dotty (see pictures) is getting bigger, i'm not sure though.

How can I tell if their pregnant?? ANNA! ... hehe

oh yeah.. whats it mean when their all lingering at the top of the tank?? .. however I think I solved that problem when I put some food in there for them, I guess they wanted dinner??

I'm here! :p

The easiest way to tell if they are pregnant is if they have a dark gravid spot. As it gets darker and bigger, it means she's getting close to having fry. The darkness is actually the fry's eyes developing. However, it should be noted, that all females have a gravid spot, pregnant or not so you can't just see if she has a gravid spot. It has to be darkish. :) Dotty certainly looks pregnant to be so it doesn't surprise me she's getting fatter.

As for them lingering at the top, yeah, usually just means they want food. Guppies are greedy little things. As long as they aren't gasping or anything it's usually not much to worry about. :)

Nice guppies, I've been wanting to breed something.
I tried both Platies and Swordies, and failed misrebley.

Yep, she looks bigger to me. I'd say she's pregnant. :) Not very far along though, maybe only 1-2 weeks in.

Paul is cute. And that's an adorable picture. Maybe they are lovers, but male Guppies are lovers with just about any female Guppy and even some females of other species... :X

yay! wtg dotty! ... now I gotta pay extra attention to her, hehe.

I've looked around and read up on breeding and guppy pregnancy, but i've read several things about that. How long are they pregnant for?? I've read various things about that one.. so I just wanna know for sure.

Thanks again Anna!

Usually around a month. Some will stay pregnat for 5 weeks if they are having a big batch, or if they are holding on to them because of bad water quality. But 3 1/2 weeks to 4 weeks is the normal. :)

Swweeeet.. so the end of the month then, gah!

I really should tell mom she's gonna be a great-grammie, lol
