I decided after much thought to swap my blue Acara for a couple of Ellioti's :D

The main reason is because i wanted something that wouldn't outgrow my tank, the acaras would've but the ellioti will be ok.
Also i wanted to breed the acara which proved difficult as the male and female didnt get along, and with limited space and no other tank i couldn't add more or take the male out for a while etc.

So yeah i took them too the lfs and pretty much swapped them for a couple of Ellioti's about 1.5 - 2" long (good value for money lol). Very colourful and look great. The guy wasnt sure what sex they were, he said they were either male and female or both females. Can anyone tell?

Here's the first one:

And this is the other:

Cheers :)

I've got no idea about sexing them but those are lovely fish. I have never seen them around here...

these are on my 'one to keep in the future list' cracking looking fish. nice choice :good:

Thanks guys :) so glad i swapped them, so peaceful, keep to themselves haven't bothered any of the other fish.

Last night when i turned my lights off one was swimming in front of the other and shacking around a bit, then they lip locked a couple of times, then both cleaned a rock :S breeding maybe or telling each other whos boss?

Will add some more pictures soon though as they are even more colourful now :D the red bellies are much deeper and their generally more brighter which is good :)

just an update on the fighting. As soon as i turned the lights off they started attacking each other a bit, looked like they were slapping each other and biting each others sides. It only lasted about 20 mins now their alright, still swimming with one another. Is this something to worry about or play fighting as their young? Or in love? haha

Nice fish elliotis but they will get either the same size as a BA and probably bigger but not by a whole lot. I have a pair and they have been paired up the last 6-8 months and in that time they have been terrorists and trouble causers in my tank, never damaged another fish but alot of flaring, it's unusual yours lip locked as they are renowned for having week jaws, hence why they flare so much.

My pair have got on fine, laid a few batches ect but now they have fell out big time the male would of killed the female if it wasn't for a coconut cave that he can't fit In so looks like I may have to part with my female

i was told that BA's get to 20cm + and Elliotis 15cm. if they do start to get too big i will probably have to buy another tank.. ooh well haha :D
They didnt lip lock for long and it wasn't very feirce.

They seem to be peaceful with the other fish, but now their breeding there chasing them away from the eggs which is normal.

Whats the best thing to feed them. my diet for the fish is Tetra min ans Tetra Pro colour one day and a couple of cubes of frozen bloodworm the other. i also put in cucumber and the occasional bag of live foods lol

Cheers for the help

Mine are fed alsorts I have a large mixed tub and it has prima, spiralina , hikari gold and staple and other random food that I can't remember then I feed frozen mysis and bloodworm and Ofcourse some cucumber once a week ooh and mealworms are by far there favourite intact all my cichlids favourite. Elliotis are not picky they eat like pigs.

From my experience they was peaceful with other fish until there first lay then after that they was both protective of each other and that's when it started.

<< that's my male ellioti in my avatar.
