Finally got him, had to ride up with him on my handlebar of my bike (went very slowly) luckily only a 2 minute trip.

This photo is very blury, hard to get one with my rubbish camera in the light (cant wait till iget a new cam).. here he is:

He's bobbing in his bag at the moment, i looked at his fins and they seem a little ripped up but hopefully that'll change . He's an amazing blue/black colour, love him already! (just need to come up with a name!)

He's also got 2 real plants in the tank now. :)

- OH! Also, I got him some frozen bloodworm - how much do i feed him and how often? They are in cubes? (was told can also feed him normal flakes) ?

He's now in and swimming about, seems to be flaring a bit at himself in the back mirror, until I figure out what I can get to cover it then hopefully it'll be ok - apparently it's nothing to be worried about, though I don't know if he's going to be able to relax..

Congrats on you new boy, he is very pretty, the blood worm part i usually use 1 cube between all my fish once a week giving the bettas about 5 worms each then fast them for a day

hes nice

if hes constantly flaring at the mirror it will stress him out.. thats why its best not to let other males see each other

Thanks for the comments - i've just come home and he seems ok, he's relaxed (not going around everywhere) and i've only seen him flare at himself ONCE in the past 15 minutes, could he perhaps realise that this is himself now?

Is there any signs I can keep an eye out for on stress for him? - I've not fed him yet, but will try a few basic fish food flakes for today, and perhaps cut a piece of frozen blood worm tommorow (like a quarter of a cube), and see how he likes that.

How often to feed him flakes per day?

Either way, a few more piccies - again apologies for the poor quality, if I get gooduns i'll put them up.

Ohhhhh he looks like my darling Neptune! :)
What about Midnight for a name?
And you might wanna get him some betta pellets - bettas can be fussy eaters so he might not be impressed by flakes!

He looks a bit like Duncan! ^^

Tetra Prima do Mini/micro granules for small fish. We feed those to Dunc and he loves them. He also gets 2-3 bloodworm once a week, or if I have no bloodworm, a couple of tiny baby earthworms ( same size as a bloodworm ) . He goes beserk for them!

If he keeps on flaring at his own reflection, you could arrange a wall of plants ( real or fake ) along the mirrored back of the tank to help disguise it.

Hi guys! I love midnight, will think on it a bit more - he's happily going around his tank, just turned his light off as he was settled by the pebbles.

I am buying a coconut tommorow and I will be busy boiling/sanding it away for a little home for him.

I'm going to move the smaller plant to the back, then buy another big play so the whole back of the tank is plantation, he seems to like it.

I fed him crunched up flakes which he really seemed to enjoy, went for them.

I've also got a pair of tights which i'll also be cutting and putting over the filter to cut flow right down, so tommorow is "makeover day" really.

He is amazing colours, his fins look a bit beaten but hopefully he'll clear up! Love him to bits already!

And he seems to love having so much space to move around in!

Nice colours!

I feed mine brine shrimp flakes, pellets and frozen bloodworms every now and then.

They LOVE it! Not so much a fan of the pellets though. Only a few of my females will eat them.

Love that color!! Nice tank setup you've made for him, too. Congrats.

I have been feeding Hikari Gold betta pellets based on comments from this forum, and my betta loves them. Anytime you raise the flap in the lid he comes up and circles around looking for food. Hubby says I don't feed enough since he always acts hungry, but I think it's more like a begging dog. lol

^^ Hikari Betta Bio-Gold really is the best food you can feed them. Brings out the colors and is nutritious. Also, it doesn't foul up the water and won't sink like other pellets. I highly recommend you look into it. Much better than standard flake food. Also, feed bloodworms sparingly. Once a week give him about 5-8 of em and keep the rest of the cube frozen. You do have to defrost them first. I just put a little bit on a paper plate until it thaws and use tweezers to feed them one by one. They chase them like mad :p

He looks great man! I'm sure he's really happy to be saved. You'll just grow more and more attached to him as he develops little quirks.

As far as his fins go, they are a little beat up. There is not white or dark color around the tears is there? As a precaution and to help speed up fin recovery, get some Melafix and dose it for about 5 days. It realllllllllllly helps fins repair and will act as a bit of a preventative for fin rot on those torn fins.

Congrats! :good:

edit: as long as the mirror is covered a bit, it shouldn't be an issue. I keep bettas in divided tanks and they can see eachother.... they just have cover to get away when they are done showing off. a mirror with some cover is essentially the same thing.

Thank's guys, no fish shops do Gold Betta Pellets, can anyone direct me to a UK site that does them as i'd like to feed him the best possible stuff!

- Oh, also how often daily to feed?

well i got my first Betta off Netty, and she told me 4 pellets in the morning and 4 in the evening. then one day a week without anything..

Ok thanks,

I've got the coconut etc, but it's so damn hard to cut through! will need to get a hacksaw or something!
