Hello there! I used to keep fish when I was a teen around 2021-2023, and used to be very active on this forum. Due to the nature of having a brain that fills full of information about whatever interest I currently hold and disposes of anything else, I have lost pretty much all the info I used to hold about fishkeeping - minus the pleco stuff, that's with me for life. I'm looking to get back into fishkeeping and am hoping to find the right crowd to steer me in the right directions while I regain some old knowledge and learn plenty of new too.

Currently without a tank, but looking to gear up to a little planted setup with some neocardinia and otocinclus, nothing major and nothing too baptism-by-fire. Thanks in advance folks.

Hello and welcome :)
Choosing neos and otos may be the first hurdle - they are both 'grazers' which means they need an established biofilm on the tank surfaces. That takes around 6-12 months to establish. :/
Some people use a product called Bacter-AE to increase the biofilm but I'm not sure how much that would accelerate it?

Welcome back! Do you remember the name you used to post under? It sounds like you probably have people here who wondered where you went.

I’ll be patient, you can count on that. I’ll look into that, sounds handy. Thanks!

I remember a member called PlasticGalaxy.......
That’d be me! You sent me some Amazon frogbit a few years ago if I recall correctly, it made my day (and my tank)!
I remember you. Double welcome back.

You were a very active member with a lot of positive reactions. And plecos, I believe.
Thank you haha, and yes I had three plecs at one point— bit of an obsessive. The plan is to get my aquarium and fishkeeping know-how back up to scratch so when I’ve got the time and resources I can work towards a biotope tank for a hypothetical sailfin plec haha :)
