got a new filter today for my tank, how do i do the change over, do i have both filters running until the new builds up enough bacteria or turn my old one off and leave it in there or do i just take the media out of my old one and leave that in the tank

I'm not a filter change expert, but would think that it would be a good idea to run them alongside each other for a few days and preferably with some of the old filter media in the new one. Give it a week or so and that should do the trick.

If you only want one filter running then just put the media from the old filter into the new one.
