So I bought a trio of Neon swordtails from my LFS yesterday and I woke up to find my bettas looking curiously at something. I got up and found a little swordtail fry!

Theres just one little one, I'm not sure if thats normal or if perhaps there were others, but the momma, one of the other swordtails, or my bettas could have possibly eaten them....

I have the current fry in one of those gallon, see-through ice cream tubs with a filter and a plant....

Any advice on what to do now and when my swords get big and pregnant again?

I really like these Neon swordtails. They are a lovely orange color and the male is absolutely stunning! They are HUGE though!

I'd like to keep these guys around and maybe start supplying my LFS with various kinds of swordtails and cory cats... maybe even betta fish.

Hope you can help!

congrats :D
i think you might have just gotten a free fry from the shop there :)
ye the swords will have fries every month or so. If you wan to keep the fry just get a fry net...
something like this:

I have the frame for something like that, I just don't know if I have something I can put on it to make it a net...

My little fry is doing pretty good!

He's made it a full 12 hours in the current container and I fed him so finely ground color enhancing flakes before I left for school and when I came home.

He's really cute! I can't wait to watch the little guy grow up!

If its a male, I'll probably give it to my little sister cause she wants one fro her 10 gallon. If its a female, I'll probably keep it in the container and maybe upgrade it to a 5 gallon bucket until I can get a 15 gallon tank to keep her in.

I just wanted to say be wary of those nets if you have cories. I put mine in overnight when my female platy looked ready to drop and I woke up to find a cory tangled up in the net - it died shortly after. It's fins had become snagged to the netting and it obviously couldn't get itself free. I wouldn't want someone else to find the same thing.

The little fry will be fine in a storage tub if it has an air pump and a heater (I keep my fry slightly warmer at around 26/27 degrees) and is fed 2-3 times a day (very tiny amount though, it won't need very much at all)

Fry update: The fry is living well! I placed a heating pad under a thick towel and then put the grow-out container on it so the baby has some warmth.
I swear I say another fry in my tank, but I could never find it long enough to catch it!
