:p

I got 2 more little chromis, made sure they were the smallest ones in the tank. I was hoping my lion was big enough to eat them, but then after I put them in I still haven't even seen my lion. After watching my tank for a while I still haven't seen him, but my niger checked them out a bit, then i thought...."My lion is too lazy" I guess these chromis will be fine for a while :X

whats wrong with river shrimp poor chromis :sly:
They didn't have any Saltwater Ghost Shrimp at my normal LFS last time i went. Yesterday I went to PetCo which isn't really a fish store but I needed a bulb.

What's wrong with tryin' to give them the thrill of a hunt once in a while? I used to have a burmese python i fed guinea pigs to (If I wuz able to keep him longer it would be something bigger and cuddlier by now :D )

So far everything is going great for those chromis now (they are prolly eating better than at the store, they have better coloration already too). The niger stays on the other side of the tank and ignores them, the lion is too lazy to even try and stalk them. The only real chase they got was from my female GSM right after I put them in the tank. She isn't big enough to eat them so I think she wuz just more curious than anything :X

Giving live feeders has been shown to increase agression in a tank, because your fish will start seeing anythign that moves as lunch. It's also very wrong, so I hope your lion sticks you one next time you put your hand in the tank.

I would not go that far as diffrent people have diffrent reactions to venom and could kill, any way i think the chromis mite be to fast for the lion as i they see it coming they will just hide

lol, i almost hand fed him the other day then i wussed out.

I'm curious as to why you feel so strongly that you wish me pain cuz I'm tryin' to get my fish to feed on some natural food. Sounds like Hippie tree-hugger nonsense to me. Do you react this way when someone orders a steak at a restaurant you're at?

Although they are used to suchj behaiour in the wild. I personally could not give live fish as feeders (dunno why, i will happily give live brineshrimp ect :dunno: ).

Def is right though, it can prmote a higher level of aggression in the tank. Every and any fish that gets placed into the tank at a later stage could well be attacked before it even has a chance ot hide etc.

If you can ween your fish onto prepared foods then you have a better control of the diet and any vitimins etc

For the most part they get frozen silversides and krill. Sometimes i get the live ghost shrimp when the LFS has them, I just wanted to see if I could actually watch any of my fish hunt. It's like having the Discovery Channel in my living room :fun: . I'm not worried too much about adding fish at a later time (hopefully my tank doesn't crash like yours did navarre, that sucked :-( ) If anything, I might add 1 more fish in the next month, but after that my tank will be too full to add any other fish.

How can you say giving a lion fish live food is wrong  Surly taking a fish outa the wild where by he would normally hunt for live food, confining him to a small tank and feeding him dead food is more wrong! My lion love's live fish, every time i walk past he give me the evil eye longing for food. He lives for the hunt, makes him feel more alive i geus. He allways seems to be on the prowl aswell, just waiting for that next sailfin mollie to just pop outa thin air.

Personally i believe if you want a lion you must be prepared for agression and thus choose tank mates to suit him. Not try tame him into a clown fish. it's like putting a fox in a chicken coop and hoping he'll eat grass!

Im not saying its wrong but there are better alternatives to live food. The reason i say this is because its possible for any fish used as live fish to carry disease or parasits etc that might (not a huge change i grant you but it "might" ) transfer to your own stock. Live foods are ok but prepared foods that are enriched in vitimins etc is a good way of controlling their diet.

I know someone who thought it was a good idea to feed his (huge ) lion fish with any ovrsized bristleworms he could find. the result was a lionfish that had to be rehoused in its own tank as it was blinded by the worm when it wrapped itself around the lionfishes head. The trouble that he had then was how to ween the fish onto dead foos when its been feeding all its life on live food. being blind meant it could not eat livefood. and had to be taught to take frozen (not easy for a fish that had no concept of this or any means to see by :*) ).

Im not saying live foods should not be used but its wise to have the fish take as many different types as possible as we simply donot know what the future holds.

the only problem I have with it is that I like green chromis!

but then, I really like the shrimp in my tank, and I reeally like
shrimp scampi! but I have to ask you how much does your lfs
charge for chromis? mine sells them for 14.99, which is a rip off,
because if I travel a little longer, I can get them for 4.99!

t's also very wrong, so I hope your lion sticks you one next time you put your hand in the tank.

Have you every eaten fish or meat or worn leather shoes or eaten sweets containing gelatin, and if so do you understand the way that the animals were killed? I think you will find it is considerably worse than being eatern.

Furthermore do you not think that the stress that fish suffer from being shipped halfway around the world because you think that they look pretty in a glass box is considerably more than the minimal suffering experienced when they are eatern?

Sorry for the rant but this smells a little of hypocracy.
Ed

ps. I dont personally object to eating meat etc. so please dont take this as the point of the post; it is how easily some peoples morals change that I am commenting on.

I got these for $3.99 a piece

My lion came from the reef no less than 1km away from my house, He's very young and loves, flakes, bloodworm, tubiflexworm, and bits. But he also loves fresh food, i'm not saying that one must only feed live food and wahteva, but he does enjoy a treat now and again. And i do love having my very own wildlife show (not that thats my main motive)

but back to the topic at hand, Has he eaten the chromis yet?
