I was just thinking that it would be a fun idea to share what sort of areas we live in visually.

This is easily achieved using the program Google Earth, for those of you who haven’t been introduced to the amazing world of Google Earth, it is “a planet's worth of imagery and other geographic information on-line. Google Earth is free, so I recommend that you download it anyway.

You can download it at the following link Google Earth

In order to post your location you will need latitude and longitude coordinates!
An example is 53°18'5.72"N6°10'40.88"W

These coordinates can be simply attained by the following steps
1.Run google earth (when downloaded)
2.Zoom into your location eg. House, apartment, cardboard box etc….
3. Add a place mark over where you live. (the placemark button is the pin symbol on the botton right hand side of the screen beside the mail and print button, it is also available in the options.
4.When the Google Earth- new placemark “window opens” tick the advanced button in the bottom left hand corner of the window. Style, location and view tabs should now pop up.
5.Click on the location tab, and the latitude and longitude coordinates will be displayed.
6.Copy and past them into the TFF post as one long sting with “no space” in the middle.
7.Once you have done this people can see where you live.

To input someone’s house coordinates into google earth
1.Simple copy the coordinates from the TFF post
2. Run google earth
3. Paste the coordinates into the Fly To box in the top left hand corner and click go or press return.
4. The program will automatically bring you to that location.

Let me be the first to show my “Krib”

53°18'5.72"N6°10'40.88"W

Let me know if this works for you, and if you feel like it post your own coordinates.

I love Google Earth, i don't have time now, but I'll come back and put up some coordinates.

I compiled a list of over 100 random places of high resolution on Google Earth, these places are all wild and no were near man (except a few). They are great pictures, a lot of good ones from australia shorelines btw. BTW-I like islands a lot, so when I post the coordinates expect to see some cool islands!

Edit-Tanks a lot, do the coordinates include tilt and the compass also? because my placemarks are from angles which make the pic look better.

Hi captain

I started replying last night but the batteries went of my lap top and it was too much work to get the plug. PLus it was 2.30 in the morining and time for bed. Anyhoo! The coordinates do not include tilt and compass. Its only the georeference to the actual location. I dont think its possible to include tilt into the coordinates, but if you know better than me please let us know.

bono's house 53°16'10.24"N6° 6'2.79"W
enya's castle 53°16'36.18"N6° 5'46.93"W

In google earth community (go to help toolbar on Google Earth and click Google Earch Community) I will make a download with all the place marks I made, there is actually around 70 of them, and plus, that includes tilt and angles! (my username is sk_rus, you shall see the download hopefully today)

My House (well the neighborhood, you can see my house in the pic, I just don't want to pinpoint it down to one house):
45° 8'16.60"N93° 7'18.38"W

The City That I was Born in (we moved to America when I was 1 year old):
58° 8'24.67"N52°39'35.00"E

my vague area, note you cannot zoom as much as other places.

50°52'48.02"N0°15'26.99"E

Nice neighborhood, it looks more like a lake land then a neighbourhood. If there good fishing in any of those lake?

update: Just had a look through some of your person google pins. Some of them are really impressive. I thought the one of the twp volcanoes in the pacific was savage!

Thanks! BTW-did you see the house, and the ships near that placemark? The coordinates to them are (I am going to only put up 3 ships there, but there are more, also I am doubting that this is a volcano):

Ship:
1) 0°16'1.76"S91°26'25.49"W Zoom in until the eye altitude is around 553 feet
2) 0°15'56.09"S91°25'14.99"W Zoom in until the eye altitude is around 290 feet
3) 0°19'19.32"S91°22'9.71"W Zoom in until the eye altitude is around 686 feet

House: 0°17'41.29"S91°21'22.81"W Zoom in until eye altitude is around 383 feet

I live in Minnesota, and Minnesota is known as the land of 10,000 lakes! And there is GREAT fishing!

geo7x- Did you know there is a crop circle near you? the coordinates are: 51° 0'40.16"N0° 1'9.38"E I downloaded a folder that had all the cropcircles on Google Earth in it, and the folder had that one in it. Also when I zoomed out farther, I saw that there were like 15 cropcircles in your area!

Hey Captain Retardo
I’m going to stick my neck out here and say that yes they are volcanoes, the Galapagos archipelago is all constructed from volcanic material and all of those volcanoes are considered to be still active. The boats that you georeferenced are very impressive, its amazing that you can actually see not just the wakes, but the wave refraction off the hulls of the stationary boats, very visible in the first one.

Fish killer, that must be worse than living next to an airport, I don’t think I could stand listening to all that screaming all day long. I take it you either have double glasing windows or you have just lived there all your life and have gotten use to the noise. As el Cap retardo said that resolution over your area is amazing. Thanks for the comment about the sea front property, I didn’t put of coordinated of my house exactly over my house but I live facing the seafront. The picture below is a picture that I took from my front doorstep.

These are the coordinates of the power station in the picture so can get an idea of which direction the photo is taken in and also what the city looks like at night.

Power station in the picture 53°20'22.17"N6°11'22.68"W (you can see the shadows of the stacks going north)

Hey retardo
you might also like this, its an island of the west coast of Ireland off county kerry, I dont know the name of the Island but check out the ring fort, the ring fort is a defensieve settlement. Notice how they use the cliffs on one side as a form of defence. The ring fort most likely dates from between 100 to 300 ad.

FK-nomore, looks like a nice place to sit out in the summer with a couple of beers and a packet of camels!

Tanks- that looks like a really cool place to live! Did you see the house near the volcanoes? Also, there are so many planes that are caught in mid-flight on google earth, i didn't find any but I did download a placemark for it, but I delted it because it took up so much space and it covered my whole Google Earth map with placemarks, i think it had over 1000 placemarks!
I was looking around in your area and just liked looking at this: 53°17'51.79"N6° 8'11.35"W That is a very cool island with the fort on it!

FK_nomore-WOW! You say you have lived there for 3 years...the picture taken from the satellites for Google Earth are actually from around the year 2002, so you probably didn't live there at the time!

Look at this: 44°53'36.20"N93°12'13.31"W California has by far the most of them though.

Speaking of planes, I was just messing around with GE today and I found one off the coast of San Dieago. Its deadly looking because it is flying over water and it must be flying really low because you can see its shadow on the waters surface.

Check it out 32°38'44.36"N117°16'58.96"W

Just a note =, that place that you pointed out near me, in called dun laghoire habour and it was the main port for dublin city. Then the put in a channeling walls near the power station to allow natural deepening of the main city port channel. The marina was only finished last year so the images must be very up to date.

I bet the us military dont like the idea of google earth much, what is the name of the plane again, is it Blackbird or something?

More fast planes

Yes it is the SR-71 Blackbird
Speaking of the military, you can see many military bases, you can even see area 51! If you look around the area 51 there are a whole bunch of really weird things!

Area 51- 37°14'43.04"N115°48'57.51"W (if you look around area 51 you'll see that they have a baseball field!)
Look at this in area 51: 37°14'27.36"N115°49'37.93"W (Rocketcar!!!)

US Nukes- 37°2'21.36"N116°1'21.04"W (You kind of have to zoom out to see them all)

Weird Things (most are probably just bombing ranges)-

1) 37°39'54.48"N116° 1'32.08"W Eye altitude: Around 10,231 ft
2) 37°37'41.10"N116°50'54.20"W
3) 37°32'43.16"N116°56'2.34"W (Look closely, from around 8,000 ft eye altitude)
4) 37°33'49.92"N116°51'3.93"W Now this is definitely a bombing range, but still worth a look!
5) 37°24'5.21"N116°52'4.54"W
