As a keeper of Columbian Redfins I would like to keep some other tough, "semi aggressive" tankmates to go with them. I love Serpea tetra but finding a good quality fish seems quite difficult. I would like a nice deep red fish but most I see are very washed out. I know they won't show their best colours in the LFS but even watching many youtube video's I don't often see a really nice red colouration.

Does anyone here keep them and do you find they colour up better with age/diet/tanks setup etc? Any help greatly appreciated.

All the best,
Steve.

The reason they are washed out is because of stress, bright substrate or bare bottom tank

just buy them and get the “medium” colour substrate.

alternatively you could buy Ruby barbs or rosy barbs.
