recently got a couple of beautiful geophagus surinamensis . i have got nutrafin sinking pellets with shrimp and krill. but these boys also happily come to the surface at feeding time and take hikari pellets tetra pro vegatable crisps etc from the surface. i hve read in a species profile that animal proteins are considered bad for these fish .

i try to give all my fish the best possible diet so whats a good diet for these guys? ive read they like a lot of vegatable matter so how about things like peas cucumber etc?

at the moment i try to feed as varied a diet as possible due to the fact i have quite a varied stocking in my tank.

main foods used for my tank are as follows

hikari gold pellets
the nutrafin sinkers with krill and shrimp
tetra pro veg ( used not as main food but as a veggie supplement for my sevs)
aquarian cichlid pellets
jbl catfish pellets my corys love
frozen foods used bloodworm mysis krill tubifex fine mussels ( golden nugget loves em) and sometimes prawns
obviously i dont feed all of this at once i just try to use as many different thing as possible to give my fish a varied diet.

also every sunday i give a weekly treat of livefood consisting of daphnia/bloodworm for the smaller fish and river shrimp for the sevs .

You seem to be feeding them a wide variety which is always good, you could try some cucumber or lettuce but mine never used to touch the stuff.

gonna put cucumber in for the plec today il r=try them with a piece too
