Good Fish Encyclopedia Book?

I tend to buy specialist books on a particular subject as most "comprehensive books" don't have everything I want in them.
Is there a particular subject you were interested in or just a general book that covers most things in limited detail?

just a general book covering all species of fish, like the baensch atlas.

Are you looking more towards text based or pictorial identification books with basic care info.

I've got loads of fish books and when the beanch books came out they really caused a stir, even today they are still considered like the Holy Grail. I loved TFH mags but I hated a lot of their book publications. The best books I find for Pictorial ID are the Aqualogs. I have all three killifish ones and a few more. Only thing about them is that each one is specific to certain types of fish and if you wished to collect them all then you would need a big wallet. But for Fish ID theres no better IMO. Good tip buy in the new and used section of Amazon.

either Baensch's Atlas or Exotic Tropical Fishes by TFH. They are informative and have lots of identifying pics with information about the species. The drawback is they don't cover every species, only the more common ones. If you go for Baensch's Atlas they do 3 or 4 volumes in fresh and a similar number in salt water species. The first volume in each contains a lot of the more common species plus general aquarium set ups and filtration, etc. The next volumes have more unusual species and new species.
