Anyone use or can reccomend me a good external filter for my 11g tank?

Are external filters loud? as i will be sleeping in the room.

Would i be better off with the fluval 2, which i currently have

For that size tank, you dont really need to go for an external filter, you could stick with the fluval 2.

If you do want to go with an external, you could go for a tetratec 600, or a rena xp1 which are both good makes and i have always found them extremely reliable. The best make of external filters are eheims and you could go for the ecco range which are reasonably priced.

External filters are not very loud although you may hear a slight num from them at night, nothing that will keep you awake though. Although for the money you will spend on an external filter, you would be most of the way to buying a bigger tank!

good luck whatever you do.

My two Eheims are so silent it's almost impossible to hear them even with my ear right up to the canister.

If you really wanted an external, the Eheim 2211 (such as they one Craynerd just sold in the buy/sell section) would be perfect. But you might as well stick with your internal Fluval :)

Ok, i like the fluval, but i thought i would free up some space with an external, if i find a good deal on ebay, ill go for it.

Can someone explain how the pipes work? Will i have to cut a hole in my hood for the holes? My hood is metal and its pretty impossible to cut holes in
it
