i am currently waiting for my last cherry barb to live out it's lifespan. after he kicks the bucket, i'm planning on remodeling my 10G aquarium with new live plants, new substrate and new ornaments. would the following community work well?

-5x serpae tetra
-5x gold barb
-2-3x cory cats.

Dude, your combination of fish might work fine in a large enough tank. It is too many fish for a 10 gallon. The gold barbs alone would be a nominal full load for the tank. 3 average size cories would be about half of a typical 10 gallon tank's biological load. I think you can see where I am going. If you want a community that large, I would suggest a 20 gallon or larger tank.

You might be able to squeeze that many into a 10 gallon if you are very regular with your partial water changes and do rather large ones every week.

the barbs and tetras would be WAY too active for that tank!, try some smaller tetras or rasboras

ember tetras
galaxy rasboras
celestial danio
pygmy corys

seriously? at the lfs, these fish weren't overly active. i've kept several diamond tetras successfully, who race around the tank like a jackrabbit that drank 6-pack of red bull. :P

yes but truck ....they may not be happy in a 10 gallon

im agreeing on the pygmy cories though........so tiny
you could just get like
pair of honey gouramis and about 6 neon tetras
