Can anyone tell me what a good bottomfeeder is - preferably a quite widespread one.

Hi markiey777 :)

Bronze or albino C. aeneus are great bottom feeders and are easily found. They are schooling fish and should be kept in groups of 3 or more.

The number and kind of fish you already have and the size of the tank itself, are important to consider when adding any kind new fish. If you tell us a little more about your tank, our members will be happy to make suggestions to you. :D

Good bottom feeders are any Corydoras catfish, and yoyo loaches. But corys have to be in groups of 5 or more. Also the yoyos have to be in twos or more or they will be lonely. :)

Yoyo and other Botia loaches can be aggresive sometimes though! I second Cories, or If you want a loach you could get Kuhli Loaches, or Botia striata, the Zebra loach, one of the non-aggresive botias.

I have had a yoyo loach for a couple of years and he hasent been agressive at all! He is my favorite fish! It may just depend on the fish.
:)

Yes sometimes Yo-Yo aren't aggresive, but they will usually be aggresive, or atleast slightly, and I wouldn't want to take that risk if I were that person. While I have never ever heard of an aggresive cory!!!

I am not saying Yo-Yos are bad, infact they are one of my favorite fish, its just that they are known to be aggresive, also my friend has an aggresive Yo-Yo. But if markiey want to take that chance, then go ahead!

Yeah I wouldend want to take a risk eather. And I havent heard of agressive corys eather!!!!! Corys are awesome!!!!! I have three!

I have one albino cory named al, and two bandit corys, one named bandit and one named flower. There awesome! :)

I would recomend a weather loach. I've had two (not at the same time I might add) and they have both been great. Not aggressive, real characters, and they love scavenging the bottom of the tank.

Shrimp always work nicely too, though they're quick to be eaten. I'd personally not know of any bottom feeders because my fish are pigs and I have no use for bottom feeders. Poor things would starve if they were in my tank.

Oh, just found out his tank stats (in his sig) he has a 45 liter tank (about 10 gallons) In that case I would recommend Dwarf Corydoras.

Thanks, I am just setting up a tank, and will probably go for the shrimp as I really like watching them. There were some fish called 'algea-eaters' at my local place, but I can't remember what their proper name was. Has anyone seen these? They looked like little hoovers, going along the rocks sucking up the algea.

Mmm i have 2 leopard corys ( Male and female ) they are like the closest 2 fish in my tank. Also have a Yoyo Loach and let me tell you that this mister is the king of bottom feeders and they are very funny as mine sleep on his side when I put the lights out and I think he is in love with my eel.HAHAHA.

Corrys you cannot go wrong with!
