Hi im getting a 30 gallon tank and i plan to make it a saltwater tank. What is a good beginner fish that could live in a 30gal?

clownfish
six line wrasse
almost any goby (a goby pistol shrimp combo is cool)
firefish
cardinals
chromis

to get you started look at liveaquaria.com They list a bunch of fish with pictures as well as how hardy they are, whether they are reef safe, and the minimum tank size to support them. Good place to start gathering info on your livestock options.

alright thank you

if you pick up fenners book "the concientious marine aquarist" it has good species profiles and tank recs.

Also purple pseudochromis are nice, that was my first fish. Even though mine is not aggresive, they are known to be. Oh they are very hardy.

are those the fish that are half purple half yellow? those are very beautiful .could i keep 1 with a clownfish?

No you are thinking of another psuedochromis they are both related. This one is all purple. But you would probably be able to get that one instead if you wanted, but I dont think they are as hardy. Yes you will be able to keep one with a clownfish. But it would be a good idea to add the clownfish first, and what ever other kind of fish you want, and add the pseudochromis last. These are great fish they will eat just about anything you feed them.

the only pseudochromis ive seen at my lfs are the half yellow half purple or purple with yellow stripe. oh and can i fit a pajama cardinal in there?

Sometimes they are called bicolor pseudochromis, and I have read that they are actually easier to take care of, or the same as the purples, so I would say that that is a good beginner fish. I havent really read up on cardinal fish, but from what I have read, I dont see why you couldnt. Oh do you have an rockwork or decorations in you aquarium? Or do you plan on it?

yes i plan on putting rockwork in it and thats good becaus i realy like pajama cardinals oh an thnks for telling me the name. oh and would the tank be full with those 3 fish?

Ok thats good because they really like to swim in and out of them, for the first couple days they will hide in there, then pretty much after that they will be swimming all over. Oh no problem they can also be calle bicolor dottybacks or sometimes royal dottybacks.

alright thanks for the info and could i fit a clown goby or a firefish goby oh and maybe a camel shrimp?

No problem. The clown goby should be fine. If you do get a firefish you have to be really careful, the pseudochromis may kill him, because pseudochromis will fight with their own specias, and they will sometimes fight with fish that have the same type of body shape as them. The camel shrimp may be a possiblity, but the bicolor pseudochromis' may eat him.
