I have a 25 gallon tank with a few neons and two angels, and would like to get some more fish. These are my first angels and was wondering if anyone has had success with or know if Rams and angels are a good mix? I have also heard that Tiger Barbs can be added, but caution is required, and someone told me they have done it(mixed barbs and angels) and all their fish were just fine. Is this a good idea?

Rainbow fish, large tetras, loaches, siamese algae eater, plecs, large livebearers.
Rams may work, ive seen it done. Cichlids can be unpredictable though, some are nice, some are not, it all depends on the fish's personality.
Tiger barbs are possible but I wouldnt advise it at all. Even though keeping 8 will spread aggression amongst themselves i think the Angel's fins will be to irresistible.

What works for one guy may be serious damag for someone else. I mix my 2 angels with silver-tip tetras, zebra danios and corydoras with no problems at all. All be it my angels are not very old but it is said in some circles that if you add angels young, then as they grow they don't see their tankmates as food because they have grown up with them. Be careful with Tiger barbs though, make sure you add at least half a dozen so they fight between themselve and don't see the angels' fins as a free meal!

Hmmmmm. So Tiger Barbs aren't sounding like too good of a choice. Anyone have any more info about Ram's with tetras and Angels?

Tiger Barbs will not be a good choice. The Neons will be eaten very soon. With a tank that small I have a feeling the agression won't go over well as territories will over lap. Even 25g isn't enough for a pair of angels, atleast un paired ones. I recommend if you would like to keep a pair of angels you get 5 or 6 and wait till' some pair up, then you may keep them in the tank and take the unpaired back to the pet shop. I would also recommend having no tank mates, little ornamants and having the bottom bare.

Are you guys seriouse!? Telling this kid to add 6+ barbs into an already overstocked tank? Even without the barbs I can see disaster written all over this. Chuka1212, please disregard this information as it isn't correct. You may try this in a bigger tank but not one your size.

I said to NOT add the tiger barbs.
They are generally possible whether he can have them in his tank or not though in general i wouldnt keep tiger barbs ever with Angelfish.

Thanks for the barb info, definately no barbs with angels. What about rams though? And about what discus man said, I don't really think two 1.5 inch angels and a few neons are overcrowded in a 25 gallon tank...? I guess I could be wrong. Were you thinking I had fully grown adults? Anyways I figured the neons will get eaten, a consequence I'm willing to take for my angels. Thanks again for all the info.

Well right now is okay, but those angels will grow. Once they grow your in for trouble.

I agree, tank is too small and it's already well stocked.

But if you were to get a bigger tank, rams would be fine - they stay out of each others way pretty much in my tank.

Incidentally, I have many many tetras in my angel tank, including neons, and never lost one to an angel yet. But it is heavily planted, and 135g. And yes, they're adults.

But 25g is too small for even baby angels and rams, you'll need a tank upgrade before you add anything else. But as long as the tank is 18" tall at least, I dont see any reason why you'd need to bare bottom it?

I have corys and harlequin rasboras in with my angel fish and they all seem to get along fine. But my angel fish are still young and mellow.

Well, thanks for all the info, I will keep my tank how it is until I upgrade. I appreciate the help.
