Hi everyone,

My cousin came over with her young children today, and one of them was fascinated by the tank, it has a Shubinkin in it. She was asking questions and pointed to the bottle of water conditioner and wanted to know what it was. I explained, then she was distracted by our cat so I didn't think anything of it. Two hours later, we're sat in the living room and she comes through holding the conditioner bottle. Basically, she'd climbed up to the shelf, got the bottle, then tipped it all in. I changed about half of the water, but I don't know what else to do, Princess has gone rather floppy-looking. Argh! Help, please?

I know that this isn't a tropical emergency, but I'm a newbie and I'm desperate. I've done two water changes up to now. We live in a very hard water area which is why I've been using the conditioner, I've been having to use water that hasn't been stood out for very long, I don't want to do any more harm to the fish... Please!

Gosh, don't you hate little kids

A few questions for you first:
1. how big is the tank?
2. how much conditioner was added?
3. is that the only fish?
4. Do you have a quarantine tank?

I would quarantine the fish, and then do a few water changes. I wouldn't panic too much, as this stuff is made to put into a tank :good: A while ago, a small child put a whole bottle of food into the tank. That's why it's always a good idea to hide everything when your having company.

Also need to know the brand of conditioner.

The tank is only small, literally only like two gallons. I know that this is horrendous, but I'm in the process of sorting out a much bigger tank, its a long story (I'm honestly not a cruel fish keeper). I'm not sure how much was added, the bottle was relatively new and holds 150ml so maybe 125ml? The Shubunkin is the only fish, and I don't have a quarantine tank.

I'm thinking its too late though, she's barely swimming now...

eta - brand is Interpet Bioactive Tapsafe.

It would appear that my cousin also added some dettol to the tank. Am fuming. I think that the Shubunkin has died as well, have her in a washing up bowl with obviously fresh water and she's not moving.

I'm so angry right now. Thanks for the help though everyone.

I would be annoyed to be you can't blame the children if there youung.
I always fetched my children up not to touch things, or other people things.

Poor things.
R.I.P.

There not much more you can do now.
