I was browsing the Practical Fishkeeping website the other day and found an article on about a girl in the UK who has set up a petition to stop the practice of goldfish being set as prizes in fairs. Has anyone else seen this?

What I then saw was this: http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/content.php?sid=1656

Personally, I say good on her, though I'm not sure how much of an impact it will make after seeing how well a previous 'attempt' went. I suppose that depends on the number of people who sign up. Not certain about the selling through p@h part of the letter after hearing some of their goldfish advice before though...

Unfortunately there are so many of these petitions going, none of them are likely to get enough signatures. What we need is a high profile campaign, preferably with some sort of celebrity endorsement; most people in this country won't listen until some pop star tells then to

Note that this is what annoyed me about avaaz as well. Online petitions.
A single person can vote over 9000 times on a petition. Why would anyone take us serious then?
The closest thing to a serious vote would be using our ID cards' serial to vote (similar to presidential elections). Which is not 100% fraud-proof either, but not as likely to be cheated in as a petition based on IPs. I have so many IPs I could vote at least 256 times.
