ok heres the was prob http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=105462 . i havent seen ick for nearly 24hrs now. but now they have gotten really stressed out and have the beginings of fin/tail rot. will it be safe for me to do a partial, and add the carbon back to my tank. Then in 24hrs or so start treating with antibacterial meds. please hurry before i lose any more goldies. oh yeah, my stats now are 0-20 nitrates, and 0-.5 nitrites and some how ph is 7.8-8.4.....never been that high and i dont know how it could have gotten there, sorry but i dont have an ammonia test on me. btw i posted this here cuzz i figured id get more replys sonner :-( hurry plz

best to have carbon place back for 24-48 hours before u start new treatment. Too much treatment = fatle as well. I let my fish rest for like week before starting another treatment to have time for them to cool down.

Best usually to go over the time recommended to treat whitespot just to make sure it has gone, very prone to secondary infections with whitespot, run carbon do a water change then add the med, good luck.

thanks for the help. im positive that the ick is gone. no sign of it for well over 24hrs. i have added the carbon back and will be picking up some antibacterial meds around 4:30 pm. it is now 10:20 am my time...anyway can anyone suggest the best med for fin rot before i leave to get some(around 4:30), the only one i know that works is melafix...is there a better one. also how long will i need to treat the fin rot.

btw: one of my fantails is near death :byebye:

Depends on your location uk, anti internal bacteria med by interpet, us, maracyn 2.

the goldies have gotten better. ick is totaly gone and fin rot on two of them is healing nicely. one question though, on my srassa commet there are now red streaks on his tail. will these go away eventually? my fantail is still alive, im surpised he has made it this far. he has the worst fin rot of the 3 and has been sitting on the bottom gasping for air....i hope he makes it :-(

Red streak in the tail is septicemia, if it hasn't progressed you stand a chance of saving the fish what bacteria med are you using.

im using melafix...it was all they had in stock at the time. after wendsday ill be able to go get something better. ill look for maracyn 2 if that would work.

Hurry as with septicemia you don't leave it, it can kill in a short time in blood poisoning.

Maracyn–Two
Manufacturer: Mardel
A broad-spectrum antibiotic for internal or external gram negative bacterial infections which can even be absorbed through the skin. Effective treatment of fin and tail rot, popeye, gill disease, dropsy (swollen body, protruding scales), septicemia (bleeding or red streaks on the body), secondary and internal infections. Effective even when fish won't eat.
Active ingredient: Mincycline hydrochlor.

:-( sadly when i got home my fantail was dead :byebye: . i just fed them for the first time since i had to start treating them. i noticed that the poo is white and stringy. i read somewhere that it means a bacterial infection. do i really need to worry. if so what meds should i use for that. on a better note the 2 goldies left are a lot better
