I've been wondering this for a while as I live in Australia up in Tropical North Queensland and we don't need to use heaters to keep tropical fish at home as our water temp stays at around 25-28 degrees (maybe abit lower in winter).
Well I know multiple people who keep goldfish without a chiller in the same temps and they seem to survive in them?? For example my GF's Dad has a pond in the backyard that has a couple of goldfish in it (fantails, black moores) and it is in the sun basically all day, there is a section with wood covering for shade but most of it is in the sun and i'm guessing the temp is around the 30degree mark at midday during summer.
Now how do they survive in that? They seem to be thriving cause they have lived in there for over 3 years and they have bred a few times and a couple of the fry have survived and grown up. They also don't have a filter in it aswell just a fountain.
So whats up with them surviving in our temps? Have they maybe adapted to the temps from being bred here or can they actually survive in any temps? The other thread made me want to know aswell with the tropical pond in the middle of no where with goldfish living in it aswell.
