My 10 gallon tank right now currently has 2 mollies and 1 platty the water is slightly salted to accomodate the mollies and the current water temperature is about 80 degrees. This weekend I was planning on a goldfish at petsmart since they're on sale for only $1. Will the goldfish get alone with my current fish right now? Will there be any potential problems in the future? Thanks in advance for the help.

i personally would not put a goldfish in a 10 gallon especially at that temp and with a salt content.

if it is a common goldfish it can grow very large and create alot of waste. evena fancy will not " enjoy" living in a 10 gallon.

so its a not a good idea from me. sorry

No, it wouldn't work. Goldfish shouldn't be mixed with tropicals. They also get much too big for a 10 gallon tank, fancies will get atleast 6", commons twice or even three times that.

They're also a coldwater fish that prefer the temperature in the 60's.

Depending on the type of goldfish, actually. Common's/shumbkins (I know I spelt that wrong :p) and other long bodied goldfish like the cooler temps, but apparently the fancy types can thrive in the higher 70's. Personally I don't keep a heater in my goldy tank, its between 65-72 degrees, depending on the temperature of the house, and they are doing well.

Goldfish are very tolerant of salt, but that is too small a tank for a goldie and too high a temp.

If they were to stay small for a long time you could get a baby and keep it if you could get the temps in the mid 70s, but goldies grow very fast and get huge and are very very messy fish.

If you had a 20 gallon you could do it with lower temps....

I've heard that too but I still would put them in upper 60's as opposed to lower or mid 70's.
