I don't agree, I would put money on it not being the plec.
You're probably right about the water, the chance of it being the pleco is very slim. I should have written that in my other post :)

Ok
Fancy goldfish like celestials, fantails, moors, chebunkins, orandas, ect. like water from 72-80 so that's why I have tropical fish with them. Goldfish like commets need to have the cooler water.
The reason why I had suspected the pleco for the fin shredding is because the tail of the goldfish was fine for months but when I added the pleco, the next day the goldfish's tail was shredded.

8 inch pleco in with my 12 inch fantiled goldfish...

in a 15gal...

sorry but from what others say about goldfish (i dont keep them myself) thats not enough room for him, not even close.

what dimensions are the tank?

our 15 gal is 24" x 12"... barely enough room for the goldfish to turn round in.

now as for them plec... at 8" he will me making a lot of waste and along with the goldfish it would be a VERY big load on the filter...

I'd go with water quality as the problem.

IF the plec was sucking on it - it would have been the body for the yummy slimecoat :X and the same with the ottos.
