Golden Nuggat Pleco Died

Well come home from work and it was floating at the top in it's side, it had a rather swollen looking belly....

now the fish was around 12cm and was in a 55ish litre tank which had a bit of a problem with algae but i put it in the new 4 ft tank which had no algae. i've put algae wafers and bog wood in the tank for a susbtitute. is it possible it starved? can't see any thing else really, i've read they last liek a week then sometimes die, but this one i've had for a little over a month.

Water stats are fine now however i did have issues with the water quality in the smaller tank due to unkowingly overstocking.

other fish in tank havent bothered the fish at all and it has wood and cave if it needed to hide.


any ideas... or just bad luck?

Poor diet for a start. These are Byransistrus and need meat in their diets for long-term health Musscle, white bait and other frozen foods e.t.c. should be offered about twice a week alongside the veg diet

A month of poor diet is unlikely to have killed it though, this said, you don't realy have any "chunky" stuff there, so it is possible that the diet is the caurse. With lots of fine food, constipation may well set-in, and that can be a killer They don't tend to go for bogwood when I've had them in the past (as Byransistrus plecs shouldn't realy)

All nuggets are sensitve to waterquality, so can you please post waterstats? They don't settle too well, hence the sketchy success in captivity. How did it look in itself since introduction?

When you introduce a Gold Nugget, you realy want to do a drip aclimation over a few hours to give the best chance of success Once aclimated and eating, they are usualy very easy to keep in a mature tank

Ahh it says on here 'they will also except more vegetable based foods like cucumber and algae wafers' i feed the other fish tubifex worms once a week and tried cucumber(totally never got touched) .the water quality seems to be ok , ammonia and nitrite's are at 0 the ph sometimes is around 6.5 (not sure why though as it does change sometimes being at 7.5).
Moving house tomorrow so think i'll leave it a few more weeks until i get another pleco.
