I've had my pair of golden severums for more than two years now(almost 3). But I've noticed in the past year that my female's eyes are quite odd. It is like her eyes are encased by "balloons." I've treated her for pop-eye(more than once with more than one type of medication), but no change. They don't seem to affect her. She acts likes she can see just fine. Has anyone else noticed this in severums? Is there anything that I can do?

sry for changing the topic rarefish but how do u tell females from males? ive read sites and they say longer fins and that but im still not sure is there a really easy way to determine males and females?

They look both like males from the wormy face but the one to the right on second pic does look more like a female comparing to the other one.Plus it has shorter fins.

In the last picture, the fish in front is a male in fairly sure. It has a dewlap and the squiggles are more pronounced.
Also, how big are they both and what tank size are they in?

the one on the left is about 25cm and the other 22cm. their in a 2 ft tank im just trying to see if they can breed or not the other 5 are in the 6ft

because of the worming on the faces I'd say they are both males. the larger is absolutely a Male and the smaller certainly looks like one
I've had both M and F over the years and the females I've had have never shown any worming on the faces.

If they were two males, one would be dead. How do the 5 in the 6ft get along? If they are ok, maby put the others with them and see if a pair forms because at the moment, if they are a pair, the tank is far far too small, and if they are two males, one will be killed.

u saying that gold sevs are agressive? mine are heaps friendly to each other. i decided to put the one on the right with the male on the left because out of all 7 only the one on the right has a hole underneath it thought it mightve been female lol. the other 5 are in a tank with 4 flowerhorns(20-26cm), an oscar(28-30), sailfin plec(30cm+), saratoga(40cm+). wen they lip lock are they fighting or mating? reading some info they say mating but it looks like their fighting same goes for the flowerhorns. ive tried looking everywhere but no 1 sells large gold sevs all LFS sell like 4cm gold ones. and they even ask me if i know how to tell males from females.

B/C topic has changed (and so have my new questions :)), I will be posting a new post. My severums have successfully bred :fun: :D!!!!!!
