Gold Gourmais

Ok the other day i went to lfs and was talked into geting two gold gourmais,1 is a fair size with the other smaller and the bigger one keeps picking on smaller one,should i split them up or will they carm down,how big will they get ive looked in my book and seen gold gourmai to be 2.5" max but my one is bigger,ive got a rio 350 ltr but clowns are in there.

Are you sure it isnt honey gourami's that get to 2.5"? With gold gourami getting to around 6"?

The Gold Gourami is just a colour morph of the Three Spot Gourami (Trichogaster trichopterus) which gets to 6" or 15cm. The only small yellow colored gourami is the Honey Gourami and that gets to 2" or 5cm. Thats probably the fish in your book that gets to '2.5"' Maybe you have an outdated book?

And are you sure your 2 'Gold Gouramis' are the same species? Maybe you have 2 males? If you upload some clear photos of them, we would be able to sex them and ID them to make sure they are the correct species.

In my book the fish that looks like what i have is listed in index as golden gourmai but on page is called croaking gouurmai-trichopsis vittata?,it looks identical to my two but like i say it says 2.5" max adult size,will they fight forever and can soneone tell me how to post pics in detail,cheers

Confused

So you actually have Trichopsis vittata?
To take good photos basic things are to not use flash, use the tank light, try to use manual focusing or use autofocus if its still. And thirdly, wait for the fish to come to you in its own time. Don't chase it around with your camera, you won't get good shots like that.

Lol,on my receipt it says gold gourmai,and i meen how to post pics,ive had trouble before with size issues.

Upload the photos onto Photobucket, copy the IMG code once uploaded and paste into your post, it will automatically be resized.

I will try some pics when i get in tommoro,after research im positive they are gold gourmais,should i split them up by puting one in with my clown loaches.

Yeah probably best to separate them.You don't want to stress him out even more than he is now TBH.

I will try to seperate a gold into my clown tank but there aint many plants in that tank,will the gourmai mind!,also one of the german rams is nowhere to be seen ive had a look all round tank and can only see one!,oh i just realized ive got 4 green tiger barbs in clown tank!

The lack of plants won't affect the Gourami a lot. And put the bigger more aggressive gourami in with the clowns and tiger barbs, should be fine as Gold Gouramis are feisty fish and semi-aggressive. I'd say, first of all add 6 more Green Tiger Barbs, this will make them much more peaceful, THEN add the large Gold Gourami. The german ram will probably come out of hiding, I always think my apisto is missing because I search the whole tank and I can't find it then the next day I find it again. :shifty:

Still no ram,he may have died!,will the giurmais not sort out the hirachy,as i dont want to add any more stock with my clowns,dont want to take any chances,whats my options with the ram and the two golds,Just seen my spelling,gouramis,
