This is the only photo the forum seemed to let me upload as a sig photo. Can anyone tell from it if "salami gourami" is a male or female? I have some others, but none are perfect.

Could you get a closer picture of the dorsal fin? It doesn't have to be perfectly clear or anything.

Right now, I'm thinking it looks like a female, because the dorsal fin looks rounded. But it's a little hard to see.

Of course, you could just go look on your fish and see if it has a pointed, and longer dorsal fin, or a rounded, shorter dorsal fin. Rounded for female, Pointed for male. :)

I can't realy tell by the fin in this picture but it has a female's body shape. If you could get a larger picture with less of the glare, it would be easier to see. The reason, BTW, you probably can't post the other pictures may have to do with the file type. Check if they are .gif, .jpeg or .bmp etc. and convert them all to whatever file type this one is (if that's the problem). Have you tried posting the pics in the member's photos section?

Okay, click on Briarmoor to see my profile and you can see a better pic of "Salami Gourami" aka now sometimes Sally Mae Gourami or Sal or just plain mean fish at feeding time. Poor corys!

Yes, I think she is female too. It would be nice if she had a less territorial temperament like one would think her sex would. At least I think I can still add a male and female Pearl now.

I went to Petco and Petsmart today and looked really hard at their gouramis and the males have a noticeably longer dorsal fin and longer body. I saw a Gold that was smaller than Sal, but had her body shape. Way different than the boys. Guess I lucked out, except for the piggyness at dinner time and the cory aggression. She is a pretty cool fish.
