For my other 10G empty, plan to test things out.

I have never:

- Used Sand
- Owned Ottos
- live plants

I plan to contrast the red colored platty with green plants, along with sand and ottos, or..i can change completly and try keeping..puffers..just dont want to feed live food tho

I want something unusual.., something new to me

go for it.you won't regret using sand.my group of 9 sterbai cory's keep the sand spotless.

if you put a puffer in there, you'll ahve to feed live most likely. and then again, the platies might become a tasty snack!

The reason i am testing sand, is that if it works out good, i'm going to change my tanks to sand so all 38 of my cories can have a good time.

I have a possibly RIDICULOUS question but.......... do/will cories eat fish waste? I have never kept cories although I have been tempted. As one of the above threads says they keep the sand spotless......... I was just wondering!
Yes I know it's daft but I couldn't resist asking!

 no cories do not eat fish waste

This is what i planned:

10G with

- Sand
- Ottos
- live plants and slate / just slate
- MAYBE some platties, it'll be cool to have a school of 12 ottos or somthing, mybe they cna breed or something :p

more suggestions welcomed

I honestly didn't think so but I have no experience of cories whatsoever!!! Sorry.......at least I did warn you that it was a ridiculous question!!
As for the planned tank....... I have recently purchased three otos and am completely addicted. Go for it!! Sounds like a gorgeous tank and I am looking forward to seeing it up and runnin!

All my tanks are sand - I think you'll enjoy it. The cories keep the bottom clean of excess food. You still have to vacumm but the sand doesn't get nearly as dirty as the gravel as everything stays on top of it. The cories love to sift around in it which tends to kick up the fish poo and more of it then gets sucked up the filter.

I heard that i have to stir the sand every week..THAT is a pain..maybe not in a 10G but certainly in a 55G.

I dont plan to get any cories for this tank, my 38+ are more than enough for me :S
