I had a couple of guppy fry born yesterday...I have three in a breeder net because I don't want them to get eaten...and I don't think there are any outside of the net...I have a ten gallon tank with 2 female balloon mollies, 3 female guppies, and 4 ghost shrimp...I am going on vacation next week to visit my grandparents and will be gone for a week, give or take a few days...I have an automatic fish feeder, but how do I feed the fry? Will they be big enough to release into the tank in a week? If not, what do I do? :(

I am new to guppy breeding, but was told in the beginning don't worry if your fry get eaten, you will have too many in no time, I now have enough to overstock a 55 and 20 gal tank in a few months, with a ten gallon and 2 females you are in trouble, so it may seem cruel but might be a good idea to chance letting them find their own hiding places in your tank, I am over stocked but have never seperated the fry. they eat really small food so don't know if the weekend feeder will work for them, but chances are better if they are free in the tank. hope this helps. carol

Heya Meggie,

I'm in similar situation as I am going away for 3 nights next week. Plus I don't have any auto feeder. I'm not worried about my adult fish going without food for a few days but I'm a bit worried about the fries so I will be leaving some boiled peas in their tanks and hopefully wont come back to lots of dead fries. I don't think a few rotting peas will cause an amonia spike. I think it's probably equivelant to having a few rotting leaves in the tank, which I have a lot of the times since the fry tanks are heavily planted.

You can maybe try that too or leave the fries in with the adults like Veeja suggested and hope for the best.

Cheers,
Mothi

So it turns out my dad can't go on vacation with us :( and i only have 3 fry and I am trying to save them because I just bought a 50 gallon aquarium and the supplies for it...I want the guppies to be fully grown by the time i have this tank cycled so I can start out with what I know to be a healthy stock :) And i will be keeping a close eye on this tank and the new one so that they don't become overstocked :) I will manage it pretty well...other than school and sports I don't have much else to worry about so I will have time to spend on my aquariums :) ...we have a store about 45 minutes away that will take my fish :)

Thank you! :)
